Macedonia
We arrived into the bus station earlier than expected into a hot, dry, sunny day in Skopje. We walked across the city to find a little hotel on the edge of the park before spending the afternoon exploring. Most of the city was rebuilt after being destroyed by an earthquake in 1963, so the architecture is largely an unfortunate result but there are still remnants of the past and overall it is a lovely, laid back place. We wandered through the markets, had a drink looking at the bridge, walked through the park and ate a BBQ dinner with a view of the fortress. After breakfast the next morning we took a bus to the beautiful town of Ohrid on the banks of the freshwater lake by the same name. Lake Ohrid was another of our favourite places on this trip, and the sun came out for the late afternoon so we could admire the perfect view out of the room that we had found in a small fishing village near the main town. We wandered the surprisingly busy centre before having dinner lakeside and raki to finish the night. The next day we visited some of the ruins and churches in the area, as well as the semi-restored fortress before getting on the bus for Albania. E
