We were somewhat bleary-eyed when we finally arrived in Belgrade after the worst overnight train adventure in history. No couchettes, we were woken at least 4 times to have our passports stamped and again at virtually every stop to have our tickets checked. We spent the next morning walking the city and getting our next few days sorted before checking into a hotel and crashing. The afternoon, more refreshed, we spent walking around, getting a boat down the Danube and eating at a restaurant called '?'. We walked around the city and were suprised at how busy everything was on a seemingly routine Thursday night. Every available outside cafe street was taken and there were people milling about on every corner. Tired, we resisted a major drinking session with the locals. The next day we went to a town called Novi Sad to see the museum, the fortress and wander around the streets. Interestingly, three of the bridges had been bombed in what they called the "NATO Terror" of 1999. We came back on the train and were chatting with a university student, who was giving us advice, but also a bit of insight into his perpective of the bombing campaign. We grabbed a quite bite to eat before getting on our overnight train (in a sleeper car) to Sofia. E
